Two weeks can seem to drag on forever or to go by in the blink of an eye. If you're moving, it's likely going to be the second choice. At this point you've probably started to get the packing under control, but there are many other important details to be taken care of as well.
Avoid problems with scheduled deliveries by contacting the shippers with your new address, and arranging to have a temporary hold placed on shipments until you've taken possession of your new home.
If your home is also your place of business, you'll need to contact your clients and determine whether or not you're going to continue to be of service to them once you've moved. Budget extra time for answering the questions they're bound to have. Your friends and family are also going to want to be able to stay in touch with you, so now is a good time to send out personal moving announcements too.
It's very important that you allow your local postal service enough time to get your change of address into the system and arrange to have your mail forwarded to your new address before you move. Some delays should be expected, especially if you're moving a long distance.
There are some things you should never have forwarded: payments, banking and tax information-anything you can't afford to lose, and that could lead to identity theft if it fell into the wrong hands.
Often the new inhabitants of your home will send mail to you at your new address as a courtesy if you ask them, but it's really much safer and more polite to take care of it yourself.
When we think of moving, we of course think of packing, cleaning, repairs, etc., but there's actually a lot more to take care of as well. Addressing these secondary issues at the proper time will keep you on track and making setting up your new home much less stressful.
