As the February release date for Nintendo's 3DS handheld gaming system approaches, more information, including a list of games that will be released, is starting to become available. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the new gaming console is that the graphics will be rendered on the screen in 3D. Even more interesting is that the gamer will not need 3D glasses.
Comparable to the Nintendo DS and DSi, the 3DS has two screens. The top screen renders the 3D graphics and also the bottom is a smaller touch sensitive display. The 3DS has two cameras on the outside of the device. These cameras are capable of taking 3D pictures and 3D video. They also allow the 3DS to play augmented reality games.
There will also be a Mii creator that permits gamers to create custom avatars for particular video games. Other features include a virtual console where traditional Nintendo and Gameboy video games could be downloaded, some with updated graphics that take full advantage of the 3D screen. The 3DS is also compatible with DS and DSi games.
There are several classic gaming titles that will have original versions ready for the 3DS. Amongst them are Kid Icarus, Metal Gear Solid, DJ Hero, Dead Or Alive, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Madden NFL, Mario Kart, Assassins Creed, and Resident Evil.
There will also be remakes of past Nintendo games ported to the 3DS to utilize the 3D graphics. Included among these are Star Fox 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (originally released for Nintendo 64).
The 3DS, however, will be capable of more than just playing games. For instance, it will easily connect to the Internet for user friendly web browsing. It also has the capability of playing 3D movies like the recent smash hit Avatar. No movies have been announced for the system yet, but Nintendo has made deals with DreamWorks, Disney, and Warner Bros. to release content.
The Nintendo 3DS will ship with a 2GB memory card to store downloads and saved video games. The 3D display is just a little over three.5 inches and also the touch delicate screen is 3.02 inches. The gadget weighs in at 8.1 ounces. There is also a sliding mechanism around the side from the gadget that permits the user to adjust the intensity from the 3D graphics. The 3DS is also stocked with an accelerometer and gyroscope, allowing for motion sensitive game play.
